5 Things To Appreciate Today

The world can be split into two camps, glass half full or glass half empty. The truth is that we all swing in and out of both of these camps on an hourly basis.

Pragmatically speaking, sometimes the glass really is half empty, but it’s just not a useful way of looking at the world. The list below is a set of things and thoughts to help bring you back to the ‘half full side’ when you find yourself feeling a little negative.

 

1. You never know what’s coming next

It’s one of the facts of life that can be exhilarating and terrifying in equal measure. On occasions when you find yourself frustrated, fed up, exhausted or weighed down by life and circumstance.

You can take solace in the idea that everything could change for the better at a moments notice. Putting yourself out in the world is always a worth while endeavour because you never know what you’re going to find. Equally, when things are going well you can really stop and appreciate how lucky you are.

 

 

2.  Purpose

Having a sense of purpose is essential to living a full life and if you don’t have one then there is nothing stopping you from developing one!

Whether it’s your children, your career, a charity you help out or just a friend that you’re helping through a difficult time, having something or someone to devote yourself to is a vital part of balance in your life.

When you feel heavy and burdened by life, be grateful for having something to genuinely contribute to.

 

 

 

3.  The kindness of others

No matter what situation you find yourself in, you can take comfort in the idea that there will always be some kind soul out there willing to help.

All you need to do is reach out and the kind hands of humanity will be there to greet you.

Sometimes the reaching out part is the most difficult, we never like to feel vulnerable and you’re never more vulnerable than when you realise that you need to ask for help.

At those moments in your life always remember that help is always right there you just need to open yourself up to it.

 

4. A deep breath

Pausing to close your eyes and take a deep breath is an invaluable way to half fill your glass. It’s a simple act that can bring your whole existence gently floating right back down to just breathing in and out.

It was one of the first things you ever did and is a humbling reminder of what really matters.

 

5.  You’re still here!

You’re still in the game and you’re still in with a chance of getting back in the win column. As long as you’re still playing you have a chance to change it up and turn it around.
